JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER
Hi hikers,
as avid outdoors persons, I'd like to solicit your input regarding what drives you to purchase hike-related publications. Content? Impulse? Cover photo? Cover lines? Price? What?? Your input is greatly appreciated. Please add your comments!!! Thanks, Mare

I think it is the location that interests me the most. Second is distance and ratings. BUT, the guide has to have good photos of the destination and maps. I like to see the trailhead, parking, a few pics of the hike to see the terrain and flora. When looking at the shelf of guide books I pick up the ones with good cover photos with the year printed in big bold easy to read type. So I guess the absolute most important thing is, "How old is the guide?" Things change and alot of the stuff out there is inaccurate to say the least.
Content is most important by far.
1. Good maps.
2. Interesting and varied locations. Varied locations is important. I want to learn about hikes I haven't done, not just Bright Angel Trail...
3. Varied hike lengths/difficulty. I want a book that I can turn to for a Tuesday morning hike, a weekend excursion, and a long trip.
